Neither the editors nor the publishers accept responsibility for the personal views or unwarranted claims of authors expressed in their contributions. The appearance of any information in this Journal does not guarantee the publication is free from errors and the opinion and statements expressed are not necessarily endorsed by the Journal.
Open Access
This journal offers TRUE OPEN ACCESS and FREE ONLINE PUBLISHING.
JUMMEC is an Open Access journal published under terms and conditions of Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International Public License (CC BY 4.0). Readers are free to read, print, share and adapt the published material in any medium and for any purpose as long as appropriate attribution are made to the contributors. Authors retain the copy-right of the published material.
Publication and Submission fee
There is no fee for submitting articles, and no article processing charges (APC) if the article is accepted for publication.
Publication Ethics & Malpractices
We follow fully COPE Principles of Transparency and Best Practice Guidelines and the COPE Code of Conduct (https://publicationethics.org). We encourage the best standards of publication ethics and take all possible of principles of transparency and measures against publication malpractices. Faculty of Medicine, University of Malaya as the publisher plays its roles of guardianship over all processes of publishing seriously and we perform our ethical and other tasks.
General duties and responsibilities of editors
Editors should be accountable for everything published in their journals. This means the editors should strive to meet the needs of readers and authors; constantly improve their journal; have processes in place to assure the quality of the material they publish; champion freedom of expression; maintain the integrity of the academic record; preclude business needs from compromising intellectual and ethical standards; and always be willing to publish corrections, clarifications, retractions and apologies when needed.
Editorial Board
Editorial board will be generated from recognized experts in the field. The editor will provide full names and affiliations of the members as well as updated contact information for the editorial office on the journal webpage.
Editorial Requests
Please note that all submissions to JUMMEC must comply with our editorial policies. If the manuscript does not adhere to our editorial requirements this will cause a delay whilst the issue is addressed. Failure to adhere to our policies may result in rejection of the manuscript.
Peer review process
Peer review assists the editor in making editorial decisions and through the editorial communications with the author may also assist the author in improving the paper. All journal's articles (including special issue) are subjected to a double-blind, peer-review process. Articles are first reviewed by editors and may be rejected because it is not dealing with the subject matter. Articles that are found suitable for review are then sent to two experts who are unknown to each other in the field of the paper. Reviewers must not be involved in the work presented, nor affiliated with the same institution(s) as any of the authors or have any potential conflicts of interests in reviewing the manuscript. Reviewers are asked to classify the paper as accepted, accepted with amendments or rejected. Reviewer's evaluations normally include the recommendation of what to do with the paper. Reviewer's comments are then seen by the author. Editors should be ready to justify any important points from the described process. Editors should not reverse decisions on publication.
Fair play
The editor should evaluate manuscripts for their intellectual content without regard to race, gender, sexual orientation, religious belief, ethnic origin, citizenship, or political philosophy of the authors. Editors' decision to accept or reject a paper for publication should be based only on the paper's importance, originality and clarity, and the study's relevance to the aim of the journal.
Confidentiality
Editor and any editorial staff must keep confidential of all information about a submitted and review process of the manuscript to anyone except the corresponding author, reviewers, potential reviewers, other editorial advisers, and the publisher.
Duties of Authors
Reporting standards
Authors should follow the format of reporting the original research with accurate data gathered. The author should include sufficient detail and references to allow others to replicate the work. Fraudulent or knowingly inaccurate statements constitute unethical behavior and are unacceptable. It is unacceptable if the author performs malpractices in the paper. Review and professional publication articles should also be accurate and objective, and editorial 'opinion' works should be clearly identified as such.
Originality and Plagiarism
The authors should ensure that they have produced original papers, and must appropriately cite or quoted if the authors have used the work and words of others.
Concurrent Publication
It is an ethical and acceptable for an author to submit or publish same research or manuscripts in more than one journal or primary publication.
Acknowledging the Sources
Authors should cite properly publications that have been influential in determining the nature of the reported work.
Ethics
Study involves humans, human data or animals should contain an ethics statement which includes the name of the committee that approved the study. If ethics was not required for the study, then this should be clearly stated and a rationale provided.
Article that is a prospective study involving human participants should include a statement detailing consent for participation. If individual clinical data is presented in the article, the authors should clarify whether consent for publication of these data was obtained. Data acquired must be kept anonymized unless otherwise advised by the owners of the content in the database and a statement outlining this should be included in the manuscript. In addition to the required informed written consent, clinical trial protocols must also be registered in a publicly accessible registry prior to participant recruitment. The trial registration number and registration date must be included in the manuscript.
Availability of supporting data
All data sets on which the conclusions of the paper rely be either deposited in publicly available repositories (where available and appropriate) or presented in the main papers or additional supporting files, in machine-readable format whenever possible. Authors must include an Availability of Data and Materials section in their article detailing where the data supporting their findings can be found. The Accession Numbers of any nucleic acid sequences, protein sequences or atomic coordinates cited in the manuscript must be provided and include the corresponding database name.
Authors Contributions
Your 'Authors Contributions' section must detail the individual contribution for each individual author listed on your manuscript.
Paper authorship
Those who have made a significant contribution to the paper should be named as an author and co-authors. Those who have participated in the aspects of the research, they should be they should be listed as contributors. All co-authors should have seen and approved the final version of the paper and have agreed to its submission for publication. JUMMEC follows the Uniform Guidelines for Biomedical Journals Requirements of the ICMJE for determining authorship (http://www.icmje.org/). The ICMJE recommends that authorship be based on the following 4 criteria:
- Substantial contributions to the conception or design of the work; or the acquisition, analysis, or interpretation of data for the work; AND
- Drafting the work or revising it critically for important intellectual content; AND
- Final approval of the version to be published; AND
- Agreement to be accountable for all aspects of the work in ensuring that questions related to the accuracy or integrity of any part of the work are appropriately investigated and resolved.
Announcement and Conflicts of Interest
All authors should include the financier or grant giver if the manuscript or research financed by the research grant or any financial support body.
Errors in published works
The author is responsible for communicating and co-operating with the editor to retract or correct the paper when a significant error or inaccuracy in his/her published work.
Publication decisions
The editor should be responsible for deciding which of the articles submitted to the journal should be published. The validation of the work in question and its importance to researchers and readers must always drive such decisions. The editor may be guided by the policies of the journal's editorial board and constrained by such legal requirements, copyright infringement, and plagiarism. The editor may confer with other editors or reviewers in making this decision.
Special Issue
A special issue of a journal focuses on a specific area of research that has wide appeal and fits within the journal's aims and scope. These special issues are coordinated and overseen by subject experts who act as Guest Editors. JUMMEC offers the opportunity to publish special issues stemming from international conferences. It's important to note that a special issue is distinct from a regular journal issue. All submissions undergo the same peer review process as regular papers and are published in the journal's regular issues upon acceptance. However, they are additionally designated as part of a special issue and are searchable within that collection.
- All special issues must receive initial approval from JUMMEC Editorial Board; where a publication agreement has to be signed between JUMMEC and the organizer requesting the special issue.
- Special issue articles should fulfil all the normal requirements of JUMMEC guidelines. The special issues editors from the conference organizer will select the articles and if the articles meet the appropriate standard, scope, quality, originality, and significance. Authors need to submit their papers via JUMMEC OJS submission system.
- The acceptance for publication is subject to JUMMEC editorial decision.
- Special Issue Guest Editor appointed by JUMMEC is expected to oversee the peer review process prior to its acceptance to be published. Guest editors are also expected to apply the same editorial rigor as JUMMEC editors.
- A full Special Issue should comprise of approximately 15-40 articles The number of papers to be published will depend on the outcome of the review process.
- Special issues will be in addition to the two (2) regular issues per year.
- An article publishing charge (APC) of RM5000 (max 15 articles) is applicable. APC of RM200/article is applicable for additional articles. The article publishing charge is subject to change at the end of each calendar year.
