History

Jurnal Syariah is the official scholarly journal published in 1993 by then the Faculty of Shariah, Acaddemy of Islam, University of Malaya. In 1996 with the merging between the Department of Islamic Studies and the Academy of Islam the journal continuously played a significant role in the development and dissemination of Shariah scholarship in Malaysia and the wider Islamic academic community.


Throughout its publication history, the journal has undergone notable developments in its publication frequency. During its initial phase, spanning a period of 15 years from 1993 to 2007, the journal adopted a biannual publication model. Beginning in 2008 and continuing to the present, Jurnal Syariah transitioned to a triannual publication frequency, reflecting both the growing volume of scholarly contributions and the increasing demand for academic discourse in the field of Shariah studies.


The journal covers publication in shariah research and interdisciplinary range of themes and issues encompassing the full spectrum of Shariah disciplines features both classical Islamic scholarship as well as contemporary shariah analyses addressing current and emerging issues affecting Muslim societies. Beyond serving as a key academic reference, Jurnal Syariah functions as an intellectual platform for scholarly engagement and academic dialogue. It provides a medium of communication for researchers and academics interested in both classical and modern Islamic law, as well as the broader impact of Islamic legal principles on society. Owing to its scope and scholarly orientation, the journal has been widely recognized as valuable research resources not only to academics but also to practitioners and researchers.
