Islamic Counseling Intervention for Unmarried Pregnant Women in Selected Shelters

Counseling intervention is one of the important elements in the recovery of unmarried pregnant women. The main objective of this study is to explore the impact of Islamic counselling approach in the rehabilitation programs at these shelters and to suggest ways to enhance this implemantion in shelters, specifically Darul Wardah (DARWA) Shelter in Selangor, Pusat Jagaan Baitus Solehah (BS) in Johor, and Generasiku Sayang (GKS) in Kelantan. A qualitative approach was employed, utilising a multiple case study design and semi-structured interviews to analyse counselling intervention in recovery programs for unmarried pregnant women in selected shelters. The participants of this study consisted of two groups: (a) six shelter residents, and (b) four authority figures, including managers and counsellor. The study findings indicated that all three shelters organize counseling programs based on Islamic principles. However, the study also found that the shelters require specialized counseling programs for unmarried pregnant women according to their needs.
