Artificial intelligence (AI) technology has significantly impacted various industries. Particularly in the Islamic finance industry, AI technology can automate the transaction process, improve operational efficiency, and assist customers and Islamic financial institutions in making better decisions. However, the application of this technology in the Islamic finance context also raises several Shariah challenges that require serious attention, as the development of AI often goes beyond the existing Shariah legal framework and standards. In this regard, this study aims to identify the forms of AI applications in Islamic financial institutions in Malaysia and the associated Shariah concerns. This study employs a qualitative approach by analysing the relevant literature’s content. The study's findings highlighted several important concerns, such as the legitimacy of AI acting as a representative to complete transactions on behalf of humans and the use of consumer data in the decision-making process.
